Hello Depot

Seems like a year went by and I didn't have any real bench time!
In fact, since last December, I've gone through a move, got engaged, am parenting two awesome boys, got a new job, and had a complete turn of events! Things are hectic but I finally got my work space set up last week and sat down to get a bit done on the old Carentan and Easy Co. diorama started so many years ago. I have hopes to finish it next year! ;)

I've decided, after a bit more research, to re-do the "factory". I couldn't find any real information on a factory or industrial building in the town, even now present-day, so it's a bit imagined in my head, but I feel as though it will fit the story I'm telling pretty well. I intend to still honor the Band of Brothers episode, the narrative telling of the battle that occurred there, and the historical context.

The old factory is now a new building made of museum board and cork sheet. It's going to be a delivery depot with a ground floor, and one floor on the top with a freight elevator that moves between the two stories. I got ambitious with this building and will have to enlarge a portion of the base so it fits correctly, but it will be well worth it!

I've made the elevator shaft from museum board, then cut the near-thinnest piece of plastic card i could and glued it on to give the shaft a concrete look later on. I made the freight gate out of plastic card as well, which turned out quite well! The elevator walls are a bit thicker plastic card. I want to build a pulley system for the elevator since the factory will be open to the back - we'll see how well that goes...

Here's the pics. Thanks for reading!

The new depot, with large windows above a garage entrance. The front has a door on the ground level with a large window in the middle and 2 large windows up top that will be partial dormers.

Interior painted with a gray tone - will be made to look like concrete soon!

Beginning the elevator shaft of museum board and plastic card. I was able to ensure it was all squared up using a couple triangle card pieces I cut out and glued in temporarily during construction.

Got it all glued down and letting it dry

The original idea for the freight elevator gate/door

Starting work on it - changed the vision a bit once sorting through my parts drawer. Found the mini trusses and was excited to use them!

Added a few H beam pieces to give the gate some depth - painting it will be a blast!

It fits! I was excited to see it inside.
